Education

With strong schools, innovative programs, and a variety of colleges and degree offerings, the education system enhances both the workforce and quality of life of the Spokane region.

Nearly 80,000 students are enrolled in public and private higher education institutions in the Inland Northwest.

Innovative Programs

Project Lead the Way (PLTW) is a nonprofit organization offering a program that prepares middle and high school students with a rigorous Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) curriculum in pre-engineering and bioscience. Many of the Spokane-area's schools utilize the program, and Washington State University Spokane is the curriculum's regional training affiliate.

FIRST Robotics is a New Hampshire-based nonprofit organization that promotes robotics competitions for school-age children throughout the country. Its mission is to inspire youths to be science and technology leaders by engaging them in exciting mentor-based programs that build science, engineering, and technology skills.

University District

The University District, located east of downtown Spokane, is bordered by Division and Hamilton streets to the west and east, respectively, and from Gonzaga University to Fifth Avenue, to the north and south. This burgeoning district is the center of Spokane's emerging technology, medical, and higher education activities. Five of the region's colleges have a presence in the Riverpoint Campus, including Washington State, Eastern Washington, Gonzaga, and Whitworth universities, and the Community Colleges of Spokane. Innovate Washington is the city's chief source for business technology incubation.
